Cleaning Your Non-Skid Deck

One of Boston Whaler's best, and perhaps most annoying at times, features on its boats is the non-skid surface. It's great for helping you keep your grip, and you don't have to worry about silly boat carpet or anything like that. But those little grids can be very hard to clean for some. We've had customers who have had no problem keeping their decks sparkling white, and other customers who's decks seem to attract dirt no matter what they do.

Are you one of those? Here's what Boston Whaler says about non-skid deck maintenence
To protect your desk and non-skid areas from the deteriorating affects of the sun, oxidation, water spots and pollution, use a good quality "fiberglass and non-skid deck" wax every two to three months.

When applied to your deck and non-skid areas, as recommended by the manufacturer, the wax forms a protective non-slick surface which will keep debris from sticking. Dirt, soot, bird droppings, and even fish blood will rinse right off.

NOTICE:

NEVER use abrasive cleaners, detergents or soft scrub type cleaners to wash your boat surfaces.

NEVER use abrasive pads, brushes or sponges to attempt to remove stubborn stains.

NEVER use strong solvents or detergents which contain chlorine.

But once your deck gets dirty, how do you clean it? Here are some ideas we've heard*:
  • Star Brite cleaner
  • treating with Woody Wax after it's clean
  • soft deck brush, Softscrub with bleach or Comet and Tilex for the black spots
  • Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on the tough spots
  • Simple Green, leaving it on for a bit to work
  • using a small pressure washer
*Please note that we do not specifically endorse any of these products or methods.

What methods or products do you use to keep your Whaler's non-skid surface sparkling white?
